The theory of activated sludge technology includes biosorption and flocculation kinetics, and has evolved into an activated water treatment process of adsorption and precipitation, which is capable of flocculation, adsorption and biometabolism of pollutants in water.
BOC Sciences has expertise in activated sludge water treatment technology and has the experience to design customized water treatment solutions for our customers. We can provide our customers with complete engineering design and technical consultation, as well as after-sales service.
In the application of activated sludge water treatment technology, the unsettled sewage and sludge are simultaneously fed into the mixing reaction purification device, and the two substances are fully mixed under mechanical agitation. At this time, flocculation adsorption reaction occurs, so that a large number of pollutants in the sewage are flocculated and adsorbed into the sludge, and the water enters the sedimentation tank. Then solid-liquid separation is carried out, and finally the precipitates are removed to obtain pure water. In order to activate again the flocculation and adsorption activity of the saturated sludge in the sedimentation tank, the sludge is subjected to a short-term aeration activation process so that some of the degraded and adsorbed organic substances can produce a certain amount of microbial flocculation, thus optimizing the settling properties of the sludge and maintaining the aerobic nature of the sludge substance.
BOC Sciences offers activated sludge technology for water treatment processes and provides technical support and exclusive customized solutions for your projects.
Activated sludge purification reaction process
Within a relatively short period of time after the contact and mixing of sewage and activated sludge, organic pollutants in sewage, especially those in suspension and colloidal state, show high removal rates, and this initial high-speed removal phenomenon is the result of the combined effect of physical and biological adsorption. Due to the large surface area of activated sludge and the large number of microorganisms enriched on the surface, the external layer is covered with a polysaccharide mucilage layer, when the organic substrates in suspension and colloidal state in the wastewater come into contact with the activated sludge floc, they are removed by rapid coagulation and adsorption.
The organic pollutants adsorbed on the cell surface of activated sludge microorganism, under the action of membrane permeable enzymes, dissolved and small-molecule organic matter directly pass through the cell wall into the cell body, while colloidal and suspended large-molecule organic matter are first hydrolyzed into dissolved small molecules by the action of extracellular enzymes and hydrolytic enzymes, and then enter the cell body. The organic pollutants that enter the cell body will diffuse into the mixture, causing the BOD value of the mixture to increase. Organic pollutants entering the cell body, under the catalytic action of various intracellular enzymes, are oxidized and decomposed into intermediate products, some intermediate products are synthesized into new cellular substances, others are oxidized into stable inorganic products, and release energy for the synthesis of cellular needs, this process is the oxidative decomposition process of substances, also known as the stabilization process. In this process, unstable high molecular organic substances are transformed into simple and stable low molecular inorganic substances through biochemical reactions, and the mixed liquid BOD is gradually reduced. The time required for the stabilization process depends on the degree of conversion of organic substances and is much longer than the adsorption process.
